About Doors Wide Open

Our Mission Statement

Support

Doors Wide Open is a not-for-profit organisation providing access to a variety of services and resources to help people recover from addiction.     We also provide a place for friends and family to have access to resources and services to help them to cope with their loved ones addiction, and to have a greater understanding of their addiction.

Children

We provide a safe network for children to speak freely about drug abuse within their home.     We also provide a range of activities for children to attend, and have child friendly areas at the Doors Wide Open Centre

Activities

We have a range of activities at the centre to help people recovering from an addiction, strengthening support networks. We are also building a community garden, which will not only provide a space for nature-lovers, but also provide the centre with fresh fruit and veges!

Compassion

We provide a safe, judgement-free zone for anyone suffering from the effects of alcohol and drug addiction. Support is offered from people who understand the impact of alcohol and drug addiction, to anyone in need. We aim for a cleaner future for the South West.

The people who really care

Lina

Lina

Founder

Lina offers crisis care for people with addiction.     Lina also helps family and friends seeking support and assistance.

"In February 2016, my son almost died, his body and organs had all but shut down due to his use of Ice over the last 3 years. I have vowed that I will no longer be a part of the problem, I will no longer bury my head in the sand.     It's time to speak out, get heard and get help to our community and Western Australia for everyone affected.     Our kids and loved ones are sick, we as family members are living a nightmare every single day to save them, we need help.     I cannot do this alone, but together we are stronger."

Julie

Founder

Julie helps recovering addicts on their journey to a new healthy life.

"In Australind they call me "Mamma Jules" because that's who I have been to many of the children who come through my house as friends of my own children, three of whom have been addicted to methamphetamine at some stage in their life. I have helped two of my sons break free of their addiction, and am still helping my third son to recover. My passion is to help recovering addicts relearn the necessary life skills that we all take for granted. Making a cup of coffee is a simple task to most of us, but for a recovering addict, this is a skill that must be learnt from scratch. Together we are helping to rebuild brain networks and create functioning human beings again."

Doors Wide Open now have a location to call home! We can be found at 42 Forrest Avenue, South Bunbury.     Our centre is not open yet, but we are working hard to get it ready to be open before the end of the year.

We are hoping that our new centre will be a place for people to find help and support with drug and alcohol addiction. We will be providing classes and workshops on a variety of different subjects to help people to recover from addiction and to re-learn life skills which have been lost due the damaging affects of addiction.

Stay tuned for more information!

Along with our new centre, we also have a new website!     We are hoping that our website can be a contact point for people seeking help with drug or alcohol addiction, and also for friends and family members who are struggling to cope with or understand their loved one's addiction.

Our website is still a work in progress, so please bare with us while we sort out any teething errors we may encounter along the way!     We are hoping that in the future we can include a full calendar of events so that you can see exactly what is going on at Doors Wide Open, and maybe even sign up for one of the many events we intend to hold at our new centre.     We also hope to add a forum to help people create a support network, and a blog for Lina where she can share the story of how Doors Wide Open began, and continues to grow.

If you have any suggestions or comments on our new website, please contact us and let us know your thoughts!

Events

We have a range of events and activities each week at the centre.

Our Events Calendar will be coming soon!
